Cynthia Fulford, PhD, Higher Education and Leadership Consultant is an experienced leader, dynamic speaker, motivator, and leadership and diversity trainer. Her presentations are passionate, exciting, humorous, and include real life stories. Dr. Fulford has successfully assisted numerous educational organizations in identifying issues that hinder student leadership and engagement. She is dedicated and committed to helping individuals become more effective leaders and organizations by identifying, improving, and streamlining operations.
Dr. Fulford’s goals as a consultant are to:
- educate individual clients on how to develop the related competencies and skills needed to lead a diverse 21st century workforce;
- coach clients in their professional and career development journey;
- train college and college bound students on how to effectively lead and run clubs/organizations.
- inform and assist collegiate leaders on effective leadership approaches for developing and implementing programs, policies, environments, realigning of people and office resources that lead to increases in student retention, student and experiential learning opportunities.
Cynthia Fulford was the inaugural Executive Director of Women’s Leadership and Student Development at an all women’s college. During her tenure, she successfully increased student attendance at events on a campus of 1200 students (600 residents) from an average of 3 per event to over 40. In collaboration with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community/business leaders, she was able to lead the creation of a self-guided Leadership Scholar Program that increased student confidence and leadership skills, and Weekendpalooza!, a weekend social engagement program for students.
Dr. Fulford works diligently to re-educate student leaders on how to serve their membership and clients, equally. She has created, implemented, or served as a student leader or advisor of numerous organizations and initiatives leading to the creation of strategic plans, mission/vision, budgets, staffing and assessment plans, marketing and social media campaigns.
Cynthia was born and raised in Trenton, NJ and graduated from Trenton Central High. She earned her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University where her dissertation was Preparing Students To Work In A Globally Diverse World: The Relationship of College Students’ Backgrounds and College Experiences To Their Orientation Toward Diversity. She obtained her Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration from Syracuse University and her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Washington and Jefferson College. She is currently completing her certification in ministry from Change Church Ministries in Ewing, NJ.
She holds certifications as a Diversity Facilitator, Conflict Mediator, Career Consultant and is a graduate of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Management Leadership Institute, participates as a member of Toastmasters International. Her numerous awards include, Student Contribution to Bowling Green State University Community Award, Syracuse University–Chancellors Exemplary Achievement Award for Diversity, Francis McMillan Parks Woman of Influence Award (Woman of the Year), and is an Honorary Member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Dr. Fulford has over 20 years of broad experiences in higher education that include positions in or overseeing, Women’s Leadership Student Activities, Community Service, Career Services, Multicultural Affairs, Greek Life, Admissions, and Financial Aid. In addition she has held numerous leadership positions as a student leader and advisor to college presidents, vice-presidents and clubs/organizations.
